Prism Linguistics provides Pothwari interpreters for the Pothohar Plateau speakers of Rawalpindi, Jhelum and Chakwal in Lexington and across the United States, and certified English translation of the Urdu Union Council and NADRA records that Pothwari families hold.
Prism Linguistics provides professional Pothwari interpreters and qualified Pothwari translators in Lexington for the courts, hospitals, USCIS appointments and attorneys that serve Lexington's Pakistani families from Rawalpindi, Jhelum and Chakwal. Our Pothwari translation services cover certified translation of the Urdu Union Council, NADRA and nikah nama records those families hold.
Lexington and Fayette County share a single consolidated government, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, but the courts are not merged. Felonies, divorces, adoptions and larger civil suits go to the Fayette Circuit Court, Kentucky's 22nd Judicial Circuit, which includes a Family Court division; misdemeanors, traffic, small claims, evictions, probate and juvenile matters sit with the Fayette District Court. Prism serves courts, attorneys, doctors and private individuals.
Kentucky Refugee Ministries keeps a Lexington office and offers interpreting in Spanish, Swahili, Kirundi, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, Haitian Creole, Kurdish, Ukrainian, Bosnian, Pashto and Dari, a fair guide to who has settled here. Fayette County Public Schools runs a multilingual services office that translates school documents for families. Courts come to Prism for the rarer languages on that list, such as Kirundi and Kinyarwanda, which other providers cannot supply. Our only office is in New York; in-person work goes to a linguist based near Lexington.
Certified Pothwari to English translation at Prism means, in nearly every case, certified Urdu to English translation of the Union Council birth certificate, the B-Form, the CNIC and the nikah nama, prepared by a qualified Pothwari translator who also reads the names and places the Urdu record spells inconsistently, and signed with a Certificate of Translation Accuracy.
Pothwari is counted as Punjabi and written as Urdu. The 2023 Pakistan census recorded Punjabi as the mother tongue of 73.6 percent of Rawalpindi Division and gave no separate figure for Pothwari, which is why a Pothwari speaker's own papers never mention it. The record set is the Pakistani one: a birth certificate from the Union Council where the birth occurred, which NADRA now prints bilingually in Urdu and English; the Child Registration Certificate (B-Form), which cannot be issued without that Union Council certificate; the CNIC at eighteen; and a nikah nama in Urdu. The recurring problem is a name spelled one way on an older Union Council record and another on the CNIC. We translate the Urdu in full, including the entries the English half of a bilingual certificate leaves blank, and spell names to match the passport with every variant noted.
Every certified Pothwari translation is a complete, word-for-word rendering with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy, prepared to meet USCIS requirements. It is done from a clear scan, so a client in Lexington gets the same translator, the same price and the same turnaround as one anywhere else in the country. Our Pothwari interpreters in Lexington are professional, experienced linguists who work in state courts, hospitals and USCIS field offices, and who come from the Pothohar Plateau, Azad Kashmir or Mirpur, which is what makes a Pothwari interpreting assignment right for a speaker who only half follows Urdu.
Pothwari, Pahari or Mirpuri: near enough the same booking, but not Punjabi. Pothwari is the speech of the plateau north of the Salt Range, with Jhelum as the border where the Majha Punjabi of Lahore begins. It shades into the Pahari of Azad Kashmir and the Mirpuri of the diaspora, and an interpreter raised anywhere in that belt is the right match. A Punjabi interpreter from central Punjab follows most Pothwari and misses vocabulary; an Urdu interpreter is what many families accept and then understand less than they let on, because Urdu is the school language, not the home one. No state runs a court certification exam in Pothwari; New York examines court interpreters in Urdu and Punjabi, and courts otherwise use a qualified Pothwari interpreter. A hospital that takes federal funds must provide one at no cost. At USCIS the Pothwari interpreter renders each answer as given.
For an in-person assignment in Lexington we assign a Pothwari interpreter based in or near the city. Telephone and video interpreting can usually be arranged the same day. We serve courts, attorneys, hospitals, USCIS applicants and private individuals; we are a private agency, not a court-appointed vendor, and we say so up front.
Pothwari (Pahari-Pothwari) is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by around 4-6 million people in the Pothohar plateau of Pakistan (Rawalpindi-Islamabad area), Pakistani-administered Kashmir (where the Mirpuri variety is dominant), and a substantial UK diaspora. The US Pothwari-speaking community is small relative to the UK community. Our Pothwari translation work is occasional and typically tied to USCIS family-reunification documents and civil records from Pakistani sources.

Pothwari translators from our nationwide network cover Lexington and the surrounding area, so a certified Pothwari translation of a Rawalpindi Union Council certificate for USCIS is prepared the same way in every city listed below.
Our only office is in New York. For in-person work in Lexington we assign a Pothwari translator who is based in or near the city, and the same Pothwari linguists cover the surrounding area:
Often not. Pothwari is counted as Punjabi in the census, but a Punjabi interpreter from Lahore misses vocabulary, and an Urdu interpreter is a school-language substitute that older speakers follow only partly. We assign an interpreter raised in the Pothohar or Azad Kashmir. No state certifies court interpreters in Pothwari; we are a private agency, not a court-appointed vendor.
Yes. The Union Council certificate is in Urdu or bilingual Urdu and English, the NADRA B-Form and CNIC are largely English already, and the nikah nama is in Urdu. We translate every Urdu entry in full and sign a Certificate of Translation Accuracy with names spelled to match the passport.
No. Our only office is in New York. Pothwari translation is done remotely from a scan, so location makes no difference to the document work. For in-person interpreting in Lexington we assign a Pothwari interpreter who is based in or near the city, and phone or video interpreting is available anywhere in the United States.
