Mirpuri Interpreter and Translator Services

Pahari-Pothwari interpreting from Mirpur, matched to the speaker rather than defaulted to Urdu, for immigration, court and medical work across the US, with certified translation of Azad Kashmir records.

Prism Linguistics arranges Mirpuri interpreters, for the Pahari-Pothwari of Mirpur in Azad Kashmir, for USCIS interviews, court hearings and medical appointments anywhere in the United States, by phone, by video or in person, and provides certified English translation of the Urdu and English records that Mirpuri families hold from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and from NADRA.

The word Mirpuri is used more here than at home, where the same speech is called Pahari, Pothwari or simply Punjabi. It is the language of Mirpur district in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and the tie between that district and Britain is unusually strong: an estimated 60 to 80 percent of British Pakistanis trace their roots to the Mirpur region, and many Mirpuri speakers in the United States arrived by way of England. Our office is in New York and the interpreter goes to wherever the appointment is; for a spoken variety with a modest US community, that is often a phone or video link the same day. Our separate Pahari page covers the Poonch and Muzaffarabad varieties.

Mirpuri Interpreting Services

It is easy to assume Urdu covers a Mirpuri family, and for a younger, city-raised applicant it often does. Working-age people from Mirpur usually speak Urdu and frequently English as well. The gap opens with an older parent, or with any speaker giving evidence about village life, where a Punjabi interpreter from Lahore or an Urdu interpreter from Karachi will drop vocabulary and, worse, misread tone.

Ask which language, and take the answer at face value. Families sometimes name Urdu out of habit when the person in the room is far more at home in Mirpuri. We ask at intake, and where the reply is Mirpuri we assign a Mirpuri interpreter rather than reach for the easier-to-find Urdu or Punjabi. It is the single decision that keeps a hearing or a consultation from turning on a misheard word.

Mirpuri Court Interpreter

No state runs a certification exam in Mirpuri or Pahari-Pothwari, so a court works from a qualified interpreter, and Prism works as a private agency rather than a court-appointed vendor. Because interpreters in this variety are not thick on the ground, a court will often take a phone or video appearance for it, and we confirm what a given bench will accept before you book. Tell us the court and the case type and we match the assignment to what the hearing needs.

Mirpuri Medical Interpreter

A Mirpuri-speaking grandparent in a clinic is too often left to a bilingual relative who rounds off the diagnosis, and a rounded-off diagnosis is the one that goes wrong. Any provider that takes federal funding must supply a Mirpuri interpreter at no cost to the patient, and most families do not know it. Video handles a consultation or a follow-up. We send someone in person for an admission, a mental-health assessment or an appointment where an older patient does far better with a person beside them.

Mirpuri USCIS Interpreter

Naturalization and family-based interviews are the routine work, and the asylum interview is where the exact words carry the case. The officer is weighing the account, the pauses and any inconsistency, so an interpreter who tidies a reply or reaches for Urdu where the speaker used Mirpuri changes what is on the record. We brief each Mirpuri interpreter to render and nothing more, and we keep a relative out of the interpreter's chair.

Mirpuri Translation Services

On paper Mirpuri barely appears, because it is not a language of record. The documents in a Mirpur family's file are Urdu and English, and the work is translating those cleanly and reconciling the names.

Certified Mirpuri Translation for USCIS

A birth is registered by the local Union Council, which issues the birth certificate; NADRA, Pakistan's registration authority, then issues the Child Registration Certificate, the B-Form, and at eighteen the CNIC, both already bilingual or in English. A marriage arrives as a nikah nama in Urdu, often handwritten, with the Union Council registration certificate behind it. The recurring trouble is the name: Mirpur has been sending families to England since the 1940s, so one person can hold a British spelling on a UK document, a NADRA spelling on the CNIC and a third, older spelling on the nikah nama. We translate each record in full, spell to the passport, and note every variant in a translator's note. The full document service is at certified translation.

Client Reviews

Prism Linguistics is rated 4.6 out of 5 across 67 client reviews for its interpreting and translation work in the United States. That is the company-wide figure; we do not publish a separate rating per language because there is no honest way to measure one. If a Mirpuri assignment ever falls short, tell us and we put it right.

Questions we get asked

Is an Urdu interpreter enough, or does my relative need a Mirpuri one?
It depends on the person. Younger, city-raised speakers from Mirpur usually manage in Urdu, so an Urdu interpreter can be fine for a routine appointment. An older relative, or anyone giving detailed evidence, should have a Mirpuri interpreter, because Urdu from Karachi and Punjabi from Lahore both lose Mirpuri vocabulary and tone. Tell us who the speaker is and we assign on that.
Can you translate a nikah nama and NADRA papers from Azad Kashmir for USCIS?
Yes. The nikah nama comes in Urdu, usually handwritten, while the Union Council certificates and the NADRA records, the B-Form or the CNIC, are in Urdu or English already. We render each in full, sign a Certificate of Translation Accuracy, set the names to the passport, and note the British or older spellings that show up elsewhere.
The speaker learned English in Britain. Do we still need a Mirpuri interpreter?
Often the British-raised generation is comfortable in English or Urdu, and no interpreter is needed. The person who needs Mirpuri is usually an older relative or a witness recalling life in the Mirpur region, where precise words matter. We match a Mirpuri interpreter to that speaker and can connect by phone or video where none is nearby.
