Manx is the heritage language of the Isle of Man, revived by a determined community after its last native speaker died in 1974, and that history shapes every job we take in it. The island keeps its records in English, so most people who ask about Manx translation find they do not need one, and most who ask about a Manx interpreter want the language for its own sake rather than to be understood. We say as much before we quote. Our office is in New York and any Manx work is handled remotely, by email for a document and by video for a speaker.
Be honest with yourself about what a Manx interpreter is for. Nobody on the Isle of Man is unable to follow English; the whole population is schooled in it, and the 2021 census counted 2,223 people with any Manx at all, every one of them bilingual. So a Manx interpreter is never booked because a person cannot understand the proceedings. It is booked because someone wishes to speak Manx, and that is a choice worth respecting rather than a barrier to solve.
What that means in practice is a small pool of fluent speakers reached by video, arranged for a ceremony, a recording or a passage a court has asked to hear in the language. There is no in-person Manx dispatch to speak of, and we will not pretend otherwise.
A court almost never needs a Manx interpreter, because the speaker in front of it already understands English. Where one is wanted, it is so a person can give a statement or take an oath in Manx as a matter of principle, and we arrange a fluent speaker by video for that.
