Malayalam is a real-demand language for us, and the demand has a shape. Kerala sends nurses and technology workers to every part of the country, and most of them speak fluent English, so the interpreter is rarely for them. It is for a visiting parent, and the translation is very often a nursing record on its way to a licensing board. Our office is in New York and our Malayalam linguists work nationwide; for an in-person appointment we assign one near you, and phone or video is usually available the same day.

Malayalam Interpreting Services

The American Community Survey for 2009 to 2013 counted about 146,000 Malayalam speakers in US homes, and the number understates how settled the community is around hospitals and tech corridors. The working generation manages in English. The person who needs a Malayalam interpreter is the grandmother brought into an emergency room, the parent at a green card interview, the elderly witness answering questions under cross-examination. Send a relative to stand in and a diagnosis or a date gets rounded off in translation; send an interpreter and the answer stays the applicant's own.

Names do not behave the way a form expects. Many Malayalam names carry no fixed surname at all: a house name, a father's name or a single initial stands in for it, so a passport may leave the surname blank and a US visa may read FNU where a family name should be. It shows up in interpreting as much as in documents, when an officer cannot line a person up with their own paperwork. We flag it early so the record and the person match.

Malayalam Medical Interpreter

Most Malayalam medical work is a parent or grandparent visiting family, and it turns up across the specialties: a cardiology review, an oncology consult, a psychiatric assessment, a delivery. Any hospital that takes federal funding has to provide a Malayalam interpreter at no cost to the patient, and most Malayali families have never been told to ask for one. Video suits a routine consult or a specialist review. We send a person into the room for discharge planning or a mental-health assessment, where an older patient does far better with someone actually present.

Malayalam Court Interpreter

No state runs a certification exam for court interpreters in Malayalam, so a court works from a qualified Malayalam interpreter, and the setting decides whether that is in person or remote. Tell us the court and the case type and we confirm what that bench will accept before you book. We take assignments from judges, attorneys and law firms directly, and we are clear about the limit of the role: Prism is a private agency, not a vendor any court has appointed.

Malayalam USCIS Interpreter

Green card and naturalization interviews are the routine immigration work, often for a spouse or parent whose English is not up to a formal interview even when it serves them day to day. The officer weighs the exact answer, so the interpreter renders it and adds nothing, and we never seat a bilingual relative in that chair. Where the file also needs translation, we handle the certificate and the interview as one job.

Malayalam Translation Services

Malayalam is one of the languages where translation is most of the work rather than a sideline to the interpreting, and the nursing pipeline out of Kerala is a large part of why.

Certified Malayalam Translation for USCIS and Nursing Boards

Kerala registers births at the local body rather than the state, so a Malayalam birth certificate comes from the registrar of a grama panchayat, a municipality or a corporation under the Local Self Government Department, printed from the Sevana system or, for recent events, from KSMART, and older ones are sometimes handwritten. We reproduce the issuing local body and registrar exactly as printed, seals and handwritten entries included, and set the name to the passport, noting any house name or initial that stands in for a surname so an adjudicator can connect the documents.

The nursing files are their own stream. A Malayali nurse adds a registration certificate and diploma from the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council in Thiruvananthapuram for CGFNS and state board verification, and many arrive after years in the Gulf carrying experience letters in Arabic. We translate the Malayalam records and the Arabic letters in the same order, each with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy. The full document service sits at certified translation.

Client Reviews

Prism Linguistics is rated 4.6 out of 5 across 67 client reviews for its interpreting and translation work in the United States. That is the company-wide figure; we do not publish a separate rating per language because there is no honest way to measure one. If a Malayalam assignment ever falls short, tell us and we put it right.

Questions we get asked

Who in a Malayali family usually needs a Malayalam interpreter?
Almost always a visiting parent or grandparent. Younger Malayalam speakers here are usually fluent in English, but an elderly relative in a hospital, a spouse at a green card interview or a witness under cross-examination does better with a Malayalam interpreter who renders the answer as given. Hospitals on federal funding must provide one at no cost, and most families do not know to ask.
Do you translate Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council records for CGFNS and state boards?
Yes. We translate the registration certificate, diploma and mark sheets from the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council in full, each with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy, and we can translate the Arabic experience letters from Gulf employers in the same order so a licensing board sees one complete file.
My passport has no surname and my US visa says FNU. Is that a problem for a certified translation?
No, and it is common with Malayalam names. Many carry a house name, a father's name or a single initial instead of a family name, so the surname field runs blank and a visa reads FNU. We render the name as your Kerala record has it, match the passport, and note the difference on the translation so an officer can see the documents describe the same person.
