Jakartanese (Betawi) is a Malay-based creole spoken by around 5 million people in Jakarta, Indonesia. It's the everyday spoken language of long-established Jakarta residents, distinct from Standard Indonesian and incorporating significant Dutch, Chinese, and Portuguese loanwords from Jakarta's colonial history. Our Jakartanese translation work is rare — Indonesian civil documents from Jakarta are almost always in Standard Indonesian, with Jakartanese being the spoken language for interpreting assignments.
