Interpreting for the parent from Jammu, not the engineer from Dallas, and certified translation of the mixed Dogri, Urdu and English records a family petition needs.

Prism Linguistics provides Dogri interpreters for USCIS interviews, court hearings and medical appointments anywhere in the United States, by phone, by video or in person, and certified English translation of the Dogri, Urdu and English records that families from the Jammu region of India hold.

Dogri is the language of the Jammu region of India, and the person who calls us for a Dogri interpreter is almost never the H-1B engineer in Dallas or the physician in Edison. It is that person's parent, arriving on a visitor or immigrant visa, who lived a whole life in Kathua or Udhampur and thinks in Dogri before any other language. Our office is in New York; the interpreters are wherever the USCIS field office, the courtroom or the clinic is.

Dogri Interpreting Services

India's 2011 census counted roughly 2.6 million Dogri speakers, nearly all of them in the Jammu division, and the language reached the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution only in 2003. In the United States there is no Dogri neighborhood anywhere. Speakers are scattered through the Indian professional communities of New Jersey, the Bay Area, Dallas and Seattle, which is why Dogri interpreting is a national phone-and-video service far more than a local one.

Hindi will often do. Sometimes it will not. Almost every Dogri speaker under sixty also speaks Hindi or Punjabi, and for a routine appointment a Hindi interpreter is a fair choice. The exceptions are the elderly parent, the witness recounting events that happened in a Dogri-speaking village, and anyone who has to answer under oath about the details of their own life. Kinship terms, idiom and place names do not carry cleanly into Hindi, and a Hindi interpreter working at speed will smooth over exactly the part that matters.

Dogri USCIS Interpreter

The Dogri USCIS assignments we see are I-130 petitions for parents, adjustment-of-status interviews and, now and then, a naturalization interview where an older applicant qualifies on age and residence to be tested in their own language. USCIS expects most applicants to bring their own interpreter to an adjustment or naturalization interview, and the officer can turn away one who is not neutral or cannot keep up. We supply a Dogri interpreter with no connection to the family, who renders question and answer exactly and tells the officer when a Dogri kinship term has no one-word English equivalent rather than guessing at one.

Dogri Court Interpreter

No state certifies court interpreters in Dogri. When a Dogri speaker is a party or a witness the court needs a qualified interpreter from outside, and that is the kind of call Prism takes. The typical matter is a family case, a guardianship or a civil dispute with an elderly relative involved, and it is usually served by video. We take the booking from the clerk, the attorney or the family directly, and we are clear that we are a private agency rather than a court-appointed vendor.

Dogri Medical Interpreter

Any hospital or clinic that accepts federal funding must supply a Dogri interpreter at no cost to the patient, and the family of a visiting grandparent from Jammu rarely knows to ask. What usually happens instead is that a son or daughter-in-law interprets, and a diagnosis gets rounded off to spare an old person worry. A Dogri interpreter by video is on the line within the hour in most cases, and a person in the room can be arranged where the appointment is planned ahead.

Dogri Translation Services

Certified Dogri Translation for USCIS

A Dogri translation order is usually a mixed file. Jammu records were issued in English, or in Urdu before the 2020 change in official languages, with Dogri surfacing in a handwritten name, a village name on a land paper or an affidavit sworn for a family petition. Marriage and birth certificates come in for I-130 and spouse-visa filings; degree certificates and experience letters come in for H-1B and employment-based green card cases, already in English but carrying Urdu seals and Dogri annotations that still have to be rendered. The script is where files go wrong: modern Dogri is Devanagari, older papers are in Dogra Akkhar, and one name can appear in Nastaliq on one page and in Roman letters on the next. We translate every language on the document under one signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy, keep the issuing office as printed and spell each name to the passport. The full service is at certified translation.

Client Reviews

Prism Linguistics is rated 4.6 out of 5 across 67 client reviews for its interpreting and translation work in the United States. That is the company-wide figure; we do not publish a separate rating per language because there is no honest way to measure one. If a Dogri assignment ever falls short, tell us and we put it right.

Questions we get asked

Can you send a Dogri interpreter in person, or is it phone and video only?
Both, with a caveat. Dogri speakers are spread thinly across the United States, so an in-person Dogri interpreter needs notice and depends on where the hearing is. Phone and video are available nationwide, usually the same day, and for most USCIS and medical appointments that is what we recommend.
My father speaks Dogri and Hindi. Which interpreter should I book for his USCIS interview?
If he is comfortable answering detailed questions about his own life in Hindi, a Hindi interpreter is fine and easier to find. If he thinks and speaks in Dogri at home, book Dogri. An interview is not the place to discover that a kinship term or a village name does not carry into Hindi.
Do you translate Jammu land records and affidavits that mix Dogri, Urdu and English?
Yes. A single Jammu document often carries English print, an Urdu seal and a Dogri name or annotation, sometimes in the older Dogra Akkhar script. We translate every part from its own language, deliver one certified translation with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy, and spell names to match the passport.
