Aymara Interpreter and Translator Services

A highland language of Bolivia and Peru that a Spanish interpreter cannot stand in for. We cover it nationwide, usually by phone or video, and translate the SERECI and RENIEC records that come with the case.

Prism Linguistics provides Aymara interpreters for USCIS interviews, immigration court hearings, attorney meetings and medical appointments anywhere in the United States, by phone or video and in person where an Aymara linguist is within reach, together with certified English translation of the Spanish-language Bolivian and Peruvian civil records that Aymara speakers hold.

An Aymara booking almost always starts as a Spanish one that went wrong. The applicant is Bolivian, the form says Spanish, a Spanish interpreter is sent, and twenty minutes in it becomes clear that the grandmother from the Altiplano is nodding through questions she does not follow. That is when an attorney or a clerk calls us. Our office is in New York and Aymara linguists in the United States can be counted on a few hands, so most of what we do in the language runs by phone or video, and we say so before you book.

Aymara Interpreting Services

Aymara is spoken around Lake Titicaca and across the high plateau, from Puno in Peru through La Paz to Oruro in Bolivia, and the regional varieties understand each other well enough that geography rarely decides who we send. What decides it is age. Younger Aymara have largely moved to Spanish; their parents and grandparents have not, or hold a Spanish that manages a market stall and collapses under a doctor's questions or a lawyer's cross-examination. Bolivian families in the United States cluster in northern Virginia around Arlington and Alexandria, with smaller groups in the New York area, Los Angeles, Miami and Providence, and Peruvian Aymara turn up in Paterson and Miami.

Which language does the person think in? That is our first question, and we put it to the family rather than reading it off a passport. Where the answer is Aymara, a Spanish interpreter does not solve the problem; it hides it. Where the answer is Spanish with Aymara underneath, we say so and book the Spanish, because sending a rare-language interpreter nobody needed helps no one.

Aymara USCIS Interpreter

Asylum interviews and adjustment-of-status interviews are the bulk of our Aymara work. An asylum officer is listening for consistency between the written declaration and the spoken account, and an Aymara speaker forced to answer in second-language Spanish sounds vague and hesitant in exactly the way that costs credibility. We connect an Aymara interpreter by phone or video and brief them to carry each answer across as it was given, pauses included, with nothing added and nothing tidied. A relative or a friend does not sit in that chair.

Aymara Court Interpreter

No state runs a certification exam for Aymara court interpreters, so a judge accepts a qualified interpreter on the record after hearing what we know about them. Most Aymara court work is immigration court, and it is one of the rare languages courts have come to Prism for when their own lists ran dry. Where no direct Aymara-English interpreter can be found for a hearing date, we can propose relay interpreting with the court's consent: an Aymara-Spanish interpreter and a Spanish-English interpreter working in sequence. It is slower and it works. We serve courts, attorneys and law firms directly, and we are a private agency, not a court-appointed vendor.

Aymara Medical Interpreter

A hospital that takes federal funds owes an Aymara-speaking patient an interpreter at no cost, and in practice the ward offers Spanish and the family accepts it. For an older patient from the Altiplano that is a poor bargain: a symptom history, a consent discussion or a discharge plan given in a second language comes back half understood. Video reaches most hospitals within the hour, and we send an Aymara interpreter in person only where one lives close enough to attend, which in most cities is not the case.

Aymara Translation Services

Certified Aymara Translation for USCIS

The Aymara translation USCIS asks for is nearly always a Spanish translation. Bolivia and Peru both recognise Aymara as official and neither issues a birth, marriage or death certificate in it. A Bolivian applicant holds a certificate from SERECI, the civil registry that sits under the Tribunal Supremo Electoral, or an older handwritten entry from the Registro Civil offices that preceded it. A Peruvian applicant holds a RENIEC record or an acta from the municipality that registered the birth. We translate the Spanish record in full, every stamp and marginal annotation included, and deliver it with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy. Where the Aymara itself appears is in the papers around the certificate: a statement recorded in the language for an asylum claim, a letter from a community authority confirming a marriage or a birth the state never registered, a sworn declaration standing in for a missing record. Those we translate from the Aymara, beside the Spanish. Given names and village names written one way in the register and another on the passport are the usual catch; we follow the passport and note the variant. The full document service is at certified translation.

Client Reviews

Prism Linguistics is rated 4.6 out of 5 across 67 client reviews for its interpreting and translation work in the United States. That is the company-wide figure; we do not publish a separate rating per language because there is no honest way to measure one. If an Aymara assignment ever falls short, tell us and we put it right.

Questions we get asked

Will the Aymara interpreter attend in person or by video?
Usually by phone or video. Aymara linguists in the United States are few and our only office is in New York, so for a hearing or a clinic elsewhere we check whether one is within reasonable distance and tell you plainly if not. Immigration courts and asylum offices accept remote interpreting, and we can normally arrange it within a day or two.
The applicant speaks some Spanish. Can we just book a Spanish interpreter?
For scheduling calls, yes. For the interview or the hearing itself, we advise against it. Older Aymara speakers often hold a working Spanish that fails on medical detail and on questions about dates, places and fear, and an asylum officer reads that hesitation as evasion. Book Aymara for anything that goes on the record.
Do you translate a Bolivian SERECI certificate or a Peruvian RENIEC record for USCIS?
Yes. Both are issued in Spanish even for Aymara-speaking families, and we translate the whole certificate with every stamp and marginal note, match the spelling to the passport, and certify it. Any Aymara-language statement or community letter in the file is translated alongside it.
