Urdu interpreters in Oklahoma City from Prism Linguistics cover court hearings, medical appointments and USCIS interviews, in person, by phone or by video. Because many Pakistani speakers grew up in Punjabi, Pashto or Sindhi, we ask which language the witness thinks in, and whether a woman interpreter is wanted. Certified translation of NADRA and Union Council records is also available.
Our Urdu interpreters in Oklahoma City are professional, experienced linguists who work in state courts, hospitals and USCIS field offices, and every Urdu interpreting booking starts by checking which language the person thinks in.
Urdu is Pakistan's national language, not everyone's first. Many people booked as Urdu speakers grew up in Punjabi, Pashto, Sindhi or Saraiki and use Urdu the way they used it at school. For a routine appointment an Urdu interpreter is fine. For testimony or an asylum interview we ask which language the person thinks in, and whether the Urdu interpreter should be a woman, which for some patients decides whether they speak at all. Spoken Urdu and Hindi are close enough that a Hindi interpreter can cover a casual conversation, but not the formal register of a courtroom.
About 508,000 people speak Urdu at home on 2020 ACS figures, one of the fastest-growing languages in the country, with Texas and California among the states holding the largest communities. No national court interpreter oral exam exists for Urdu. California treats it as a registered language, tested by a written exam and oral proficiency exams in English and Urdu, and most other courts use a registered or otherwise qualified Urdu interpreter. Tell us the court and the case type and we confirm what it will accept. Any hospital that takes federal funding must supply an Urdu interpreter at no cost; elderly parents on visitor visas are the ones who need it. At USCIS the Urdu interpreter has to stay neutral, and an interpreter who explains a relative's answer has already done harm.
For an in-person assignment in Oklahoma City we assign an Urdu interpreter based in or near the city. Telephone and video interpreting can usually be arranged the same day. We serve courts, attorneys, hospitals, USCIS applicants and private individuals; we are a private agency, not a court-appointed vendor, and we say so up front.
Urdu court interpreters in Oklahoma City are booked by a party or an attorney, not appointed by the bench, and we need the case type, the expected length and who will be speaking. Legal Urdu leans on Persian and Arabic vocabulary a witness from a village never uses, so a good court interpreter puts the judge's question in plain words and gives the answer back at its own register.
An Urdu interpreter for a USCIS interview in Oklahoma City is something the applicant brings. Since USCIS stopped supplying telephone interpreters for asylum interviews in September 2023, applicants bring their own; at a green card or naturalization interview the Urdu interpreter must be an adult who is neither the attorney nor a witness, and signs Form G-1256. Parents exempt from the English test may take civics through the same interpreter.
Urdu medical interpreters in Oklahoma City are usually requested for a relative: a father starting dialysis, a daughter-in-law at a prenatal visit who wants a woman. Diabetes runs high in Pakistani families, so the interpreter is there for years of follow-up, and questions about Ramadan fasting and medication timing come round every year. We send one in person for consent and diagnosis and by video for the check-ups between.
Prism Linguistics supplies experienced Urdu interpreters in Oklahoma City for court hearings, depositions, medical appointments and USCIS interviews, in person, by phone or by video, with a woman interpreter on request, and certified Urdu translation of the Pakistani records behind those cases.
Oklahoma City is the seat of Oklahoma County, which forms Oklahoma's Seventh Judicial District. The Oklahoma County District Court is the trial court of general jurisdiction for felonies and larger civil matters, while the Oklahoma City Municipal Court hears traffic offenses, misdemeanors and city code violations. Attorneys file with USCIS, where certified translation of civil records is required, and courts approach Prism for rare languages other providers cannot supply.
Oklahoma City Public Schools translates family documents into Spanish as standard and reviews requests for other languages case by case. The Asian District anchors a Vietnamese community that is the largest Asian group in the state. Cherokee and Choctaw are spoken across Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma City Indian Clinic serves patients from more than two hundred federally recognized tribes in central Oklahoma, so tribal language requests reach clinics and courtrooms. Prism runs one office, in New York, and assigns a linguist based in or near the area for in-person work.
Prism supplies local Urdu interpreting in Oklahoma City and the surrounding area from one nationwide roster of qualified Urdu interpreters, so an Urdu interpreter for any city below is requested the same way.

Prism Linguistics provides qualified Urdu translators in Oklahoma City and professional Urdu interpreters for the courts, hospitals, attorneys and USCIS appointments serving Oklahoma City's Pakistani community, with Urdu translation services covering NADRA certificates, Union Council records and the nikah nama as certified translation for USCIS.
Certified Urdu to English translation at Prism is handled by qualified Urdu translators who read handwritten Nastaliq as readily as printed NADRA text, each document delivered with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy.
Pakistani applicants usually hold two versions of every record. NADRA issues computerised, bilingual Urdu and English certificates: the birth certificate, the Child Registration Certificate (the B-Form), the Family Registration Certificate and the Marriage Registration Certificate. Underneath those sit the Union Council originals, which are Urdu only and often handwritten. The marriage contract, the nikah nama, is the document that catches people out: a handwritten Urdu form of 25 numbered columns signed by the couple, their representatives, two witnesses and the nikah khwan, and for US immigration purposes it is submitted with its translation alongside the NADRA certificate, because neither on its own is treated as full proof of the marriage.
Nastaliq handwriting is the hard part. A Union Council clerk's Urdu is read by an Urdu translator who works in the script every day, not by someone who reads printed Urdu only, and every column is translated, including the dower terms and the conditions the couple struck out. Names then have to match the passport: Muhammad or Mohammad, Hussain or Husain. We follow the passport and note the variant on the original.
Every certified Urdu translation is a complete, word-for-word rendering with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy, prepared to meet USCIS requirements. It is done from a clear scan, so a client in Oklahoma City gets the same translator, the same price and the same turnaround as one anywhere else in the country. Urdu is the national language of Pakistan and one of the official languages of India, with around 230 million speakers between them. It shares much of its spoken grammar with Hindi but is written in Perso-Arabic script (Nastaliq), and its formal vocabulary draws more heavily on Persian and Arabic. For US-based clients we mainly translate Pakistani civil documents, birth certificates, marriage records (nikah nama), national ID cards, and educational diplomas, for USCIS family-reunification and academic-credential applications. Urdu-speaking communities in the US are concentrated in New York, New Jersey, Texas, Illinois, and Northern Virginia.
For a US immigration filing, yes. The NADRA Marriage Registration Certificate is bilingual, but the handwritten Urdu nikah nama is the underlying contract, and the two are normally submitted together with a certified translation of the nikah nama. We translate all 25 columns and deliver it with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy.
There is no national certification exam in Urdu. California registers Urdu court interpreters after a written exam and oral proficiency tests in both languages, and other states use a registered or otherwise qualified Urdu interpreter. Tell us the court and the case type and we confirm what that court will accept before you book. We are a private agency, not a court-appointed vendor.
