Sorani Interpreter in Denver, CO

Sorani interpreters for Denver courts, hospitals, attorneys and USCIS appointments, in person, by phone or by video.

Prism Linguistics provides Sorani (Central Kurdish) interpreters for asylum interviews, court hearings and medical appointments in Denver and across the United States, and certified English translation of the bilingual Kurdish and Arabic records of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and the Persian records that Sorani speakers from Iran hold.

Sorani Interpreters in Denver

Our Sorani interpreters in Denver are experienced, professional linguists who work in asylum offices, immigration and state courts and hospitals, and who are assigned as Sorani interpreters matched to the speaker's home city, never as a Kurmanji or Behdini stand-in.

Sorani is not Kurmanji, and the court will not stop to check. Sorani has dropped the grammatical gender and noun cases that Kurmanji and Behdini keep, and the vocabulary has diverged, so a Kurmanji interpreter from Duhok or Turkey booked for a Sorani witness from Sulaymaniyah will struggle in the detail. Within Sorani the differences are smaller: the Sulaymaniyah and Erbil speech of Iraq, the Ardalani of Sanandaj and the Mukriyani of Mahabad in Iran follow each other well, though the loanwords differ. We ask the country and city and say which Sorani interpreter we are sending. No state runs a court certification exam in Sorani or any other Kurdish variety, so courts use a registered or otherwise qualified Sorani interpreter. Hospitals that take federal funds must provide a Sorani interpreter at no cost. At an asylum interview the Sorani interpreter gives the officer the answer as spoken.

For an in-person assignment in Denver we assign a Sorani interpreter based in or near the city. Telephone and video interpreting can usually be arranged the same day. We serve courts, attorneys, hospitals, USCIS applicants and private individuals; we are a private agency, not a court-appointed vendor, and we say so up front.

Sorani Court, Medical and USCIS Interpreters in Denver

Prism Linguistics supplies professional Sorani interpreters in Denver for asylum interviews, immigration and state court hearings, depositions and medical appointments, in person, by phone or by video, together with certified Sorani translation of the KRG and Iranian records that travel with those cases.

Denver is a consolidated city and county, the only state capital that is one, and its courts are unusual to match: the Colorado judiciary describes Denver as four constitutionally separate courts. Felonies, larger civil suits and domestic relations go to Denver District Court in the Second Judicial District. Denver County Court takes state misdemeanors, traffic, small claims, protection orders and preliminary hearings, and serves as the city's municipal court too. Our only office is in New York; a linguist near Denver covers in-person work.

Denver Public Schools lists its eight most common family languages as Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, Amharic, French, Somali, Nepali and Dari. The city's own language access plan adds Russian, Burmese, Karen, Pashto and Persian. Colorado's refugee program, whose enrollees concentrate in metro Denver, records Rohingya, Tigrinya, Swahili and Ukrainian among leading arrival languages. Denver Health and the Denver Immigration Court both generate steady interpreting work. Rohingya and Tigrinya are the sort of languages courts approach Prism for.

Sorani to English Translation Services in Denver

Certified Sorani to English translation at Prism covers both halves of a bilingual Kurdistan Regional Government record: the civil status identity card, nationality certificate, unified national card and birth and marriage certificates, plus the Persian shenasnameh and the Sorani letters and messages behind an Iranian Kurd's asylum claim, each with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy.

Sorani is the one Kurdish variety that appears on official paper. In the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Sorani is the working language of government and the civil status directorates issue records bilingually, Kurdish alongside Arabic, under a Kurdistan Regional Government header: the civil status identity card, the nationality certificate, the unified national card that has replaced both, and birth and marriage certificates. USCIS requires every visible field translated, and a translator working only from Arabic skips the Sorani half. Sorani is written in an Arabic-based script with letters of its own, so one name reaches the passport through two romanisations. A Sorani speaker from Iran is different: Iran's constitution makes Persian the only language of official documents, so the shenasnameh identity booklet is in Persian, and what needs a Sorani translator is the letters and messages behind an asylum claim. Our Sorani translators render each record from the language it is in and spell names to match the passport.

Every certified Sorani translation is a complete, word-for-word rendering with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy, prepared to meet USCIS requirements. It is done from a clear scan, so a client in Denver gets the same translator, the same price and the same turnaround as one anywhere else in the country. See certified Sorani translation for the document service in full.

About the Sorani Language

Sorani is the dominant Kurdish language of Iraqi Kurdistan, the language of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Kirkuk, and the official Kurdish standard of Iraq. About 9 million people speak it. Sorani is written in a Perso-Arabic script (unlike Kurmanji, which uses Latin script in Turkey and Syria), so its written form is closer to Persian or Arabic than to Latin-alphabet Kurdish. Most of our Sorani translation work is USCIS asylum paperwork from Iraqi Kurdistan, military-translator credentials for SIV applications, and the family-reunification documents that have followed the long Iraqi conflict timeline.

Sorani Interpreting in Denver: FAQs

Do you send a Sorani interpreter from Iraq or from Iran?

Whichever matches the speaker. Iraqi Sorani from Erbil and Sulaymaniyah and Iranian Sorani from Sanandaj or Mahabad follow each other well, but the loanwords differ, so we ask the home city. A Kurmanji or Behdini interpreter is not a substitute; those are separate pages on this site.

My Kurdistan Region documents are in Sorani and Arabic. Do you translate both halves?

Yes. KRG civil status cards, nationality certificates and birth records are issued bilingually, so we render both the Sorani and the Arabic text with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy.

Do you have an office in Denver?

No. Our only office is in New York. Sorani translation is done remotely from a scan, so location makes no difference to the document work. For in-person interpreting in Denver we assign a Sorani interpreter who is based in or near the city, and phone or video interpreting is available anywhere in the United States.
