Shanghainese is a Wu Chinese variety spoken by around 14 million people in Shanghai and the surrounding Yangtze Delta. It's distinct from Mandarin both in pronunciation and grammar, though use has declined among younger Shanghainese as Mandarin dominates education and media. The US Shanghainese-speaking community is concentrated in California's Bay Area and the New York metro area. Our Shanghainese translation work overlaps with general Chinese — civil documents are usually in written Mandarin Chinese.
