About Mirandese Language

Mirandese is a small Romance language spoken by around 10,000 people in the Miranda do Douro region of northeastern Portugal, near the Spanish border. It's a co-official regional language of Portugal alongside Portuguese — recognised by law in 1999. Linguistically it's closer to Spanish-region Astur-Leonese than to Portuguese. Our Mirandese translation work is essentially non-existent; documents from this region are usually in Portuguese and routed accordingly.
