About Maithili Language

Maithili is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by around 35 million people in the Mithila region — northern Bihar in India and the Terai plains of southern Nepal. It received recognition as an official Indian language in 2003. The US Maithili-speaking community is part of the broader Indian-American population from Bihar and the Nepali-American diaspora. Our Maithili translation work is occasional and typically tied to USCIS civil documents, academic transcripts, and the family-reunification paperwork that accompanies Mithila-region migration. Maithili is usually written in Devanagari today, though the Mithilakshar script has a long historical tradition.
