Kiunguju is the variety of Swahili spoken in and around Zanzibar — historically the "purest" form of the language, since the Zanzibar archipelago was a centre of Swahili literature and trade for centuries. It serves as the basis for Standard Swahili (Kiswahili Sanifu). Our Kiunguju translation work overlaps with broader Swahili — Tanzanian and Zanzibari civil documents are usually in Standard Swahili, with Kiunguju being a regional spoken variety.
