About Karen Language

Karen refers to a group of related Sino-Tibetan languages spoken by around 7 million people, primarily across the Thai-Burma border region — Karen State in Myanmar plus refugee camps and communities in northern Thailand. The Karen (particularly the Sgaw and Pwo Karen) have been heavily impacted by Myanmar's long civil conflict, with significant refugee resettlement in the United States — concentrated in Saint Paul (Minnesota), Buffalo, Indianapolis, Utica, and Phoenix. Our Karen translation work is overwhelmingly USCIS asylum and refugee paperwork, healthcare consent forms, and school-enrolment documents.
