Gagauz is a Turkic language spoken by around 150,000 people, primarily in Gagauzia — an autonomous region of Moldova — and small communities in Ukraine and Bulgaria. The Gagauz are Orthodox Christians, distinctive among Turkic-speaking peoples (who are predominantly Muslim), and have a long history of Russian-imperial and Soviet contact. The US Gagauz-speaking community is small, part of the broader Moldovan-American population. Our Gagauz translation work is occasional and typically tied to USCIS civil documents from Moldovan sources. Gagauz is written in the Latin alphabet.
