Fukienese (Hokkien, Min Nan) is a Southern Min Chinese variety spoken by around 50 million people, primarily in Fujian province (the historical name "Fukien" gives the language its name), Taiwan, parts of Southeast Asia (particularly Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia), and the US Chinese-American community. The US Hokkien-speaking population is concentrated in New York, Houston, and California, with strong Taiwanese-American representation. Our Fukienese translation work overlaps with general Chinese — civil documents are usually in written Mandarin Chinese, with Hokkien being the spoken language for interpreting assignments.
