Chavacano is a Spanish-based creole language spoken by around 700,000 people in Zamboanga City and other parts of Mindanao in the Philippines — the only Spanish-derived creole language in Asia, a legacy of three centuries of Spanish colonial presence. The Chavacano-speaking community in the United States is part of the broader Filipino-American population, particularly the Zamboangueño diaspora in California. Our Chavacano translation work is occasional, typically Philippine civil documents from Zamboanga sources translated for USCIS purposes.
