Certified Bahasa Melayu document translation and Bahasa Melayu interpreters for Tulsa courts, hospitals, attorneys and USCIS appointments.
Prism Linguistics provides certified English translation of Malaysian records written in Bahasa Melayu, the JPN sijil kelahiran and MyKad among them, and Bahasa Melayu interpreters for USCIS interviews, court hearings and medical appointments in Tulsa and across the United States.
Certified Bahasa Melayu to English translation is most of our Malaysian document work: JPN birth and marriage certificates, the MyKad, school and university records, each translated in full by a Bahasa Melayu translator, signed with a Certificate of Translation Accuracy and with the name kept exactly as the record prints it.
The name on a JPN certificate is not a first name and a surname. Malaysian civil records come from Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara, the National Registration Department: the sijil kelahiran (birth certificate) carrying the JPN stamp and the identity card number that later becomes the MyKad, marriage certificates, and the MyKad itself. Article 152 of the Federal Constitution names the national language Bahasa Melayu, and these forms are printed and completed in it, personal details included. A Malay name is a personal name, then bin or binti, then the father's name, with no family surname; some Malaysians carry anak lelaki or anak perempuan, written a/l and a/p, in the same position. The Malaysian passport puts everything after that connector into the surname field, so the surname USCIS holds on file is the father's given name. A translator who tidies bin Abdullah into a Western surname creates a mismatch the applicant then has to explain. We reproduce the name exactly as the JPN record prints it, match the passport and add a translator's note on the structure.
Every certified Bahasa Melayu translation is a complete, word-for-word rendering with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy, prepared to meet USCIS requirements. It is done from a clear scan, so a client in Tulsa gets the same translator, the same price and the same turnaround as one anywhere else in the country. Tulsa is the seat of Tulsa County, and its trial court of general jurisdiction is the District Court of Tulsa County, Oklahoma's Fourteenth Judicial District, while the Tulsa Municipal Court hears city ordinance, traffic and misdemeanor code violations. About half the city lies inside the Muscogee (Creek) Nation reservation, so tribal courts also handle matters involving Native defendants. Prism Linguistics works from one head office, in New York, and assigns a linguist based near Tulsa for in-person work.
Tulsa Public Schools issues I Speak cards in Spanish, Hmong, Pashto, Dari, Chuukese, Marshallese, Arabic, Vietnamese and French, and runs family interpretation phone lines in Spanish, Hmong, Pashto, Dari, Marshallese and Arabic. South Tulsa holds the largest Zomi community in the country, and nearby Jenks Public Schools identifies more than a thousand Zomi and Burmese students. Courts and attorneys come to Prism for rare languages such as Zomi and Chuukese that other providers cannot supply.
Our Bahasa Melayu interpreters in Tulsa are experienced, professional linguists who work in hospitals, USCIS field offices, state courts and attorneys' offices, in the standard register set by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka that Malaysian documents, courts and schools follow rather than a market dialect.
Malaysian Malay, not Indonesian. Bahasa Melayu is close to Indonesian on paper and different enough in everyday vocabulary that we do not send an Indonesian interpreter for a Malaysian speaker without asking first. Many Malaysians who reach the United States speak English well, so the person who needs a Bahasa Melayu interpreter is usually a parent visiting for a birth or a hospital stay, or a spouse at an adjustment interview whose English covers shopping and not questions about the marriage. No state runs a court certification exam in Bahasa Melayu, so courts use a qualified Bahasa Melayu interpreter, and Malaysian Malay is among the rare languages courts come to us for, often by phone or video. Hospitals that take federal funds must provide a Bahasa Melayu interpreter at no cost. At USCIS the Bahasa Melayu interpreter renders each answer without softening or explaining it.
For an in-person assignment in Tulsa we assign a Bahasa Melayu interpreter based in or near the city. Telephone and video interpreting can usually be arranged the same day. We serve courts, attorneys, hospitals, USCIS applicants and private individuals; we are a private agency, not a court-appointed vendor, and we say so up front.

Bahasa Melayu, literally "Malay language", is the national language of Malaysia, Brunei, and one of Singapore's official languages. It's the close cousin of Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia), with the two being roughly 80% mutually intelligible but distinct in vocabulary, spelling, and legal conventions that matter on official documents. We translate Malaysian and Bruneian civil records for USCIS, business contracts tied to Malaysian electronics, palm oil, and rubber sectors, and the occasional Singaporean document where the Malay-language version is the legal original. Malay is written in the Latin alphabet today, though older religious and traditional documents use the Arabic-derived Jawi script.

Yes. We translate the JPN birth certificate in full, the JPN stamp, the identity card number and every entry in Bahasa Melayu included, and deliver the certified Bahasa Melayu translation with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy. The name is reproduced exactly as printed, bin or binti and the father's name in place, with a translator's note explaining that Malay names carry no family surname.
We keep the name as the Malaysian record and the passport show it and add a note explaining that bin or binti and the father's name form a patronymic, not a surname. That note is what an officer needs to see that the JPN certificate, the passport and the US file all describe one person.
