About the Alsatian Language

Alsatian is the Germanic dialect of Alsace in eastern France, and it sits awkwardly between French and German in ways that matter for paperwork. Older civil records from the region may be in German, French, or a mix, depending on which country held Alsace when they were issued. Families tracing dual citizenship or settling an estate abroad usually bring us birth and marriage records that need careful reading before translation. We handle those alongside the standard French documents, and flag anything where the original hand is genuinely ambiguous.
